Dog Days of Summer – A yard sale with a purpose

October 15, 2012

Dogs enjoyed the event as much as their owners.

Hudson Animal Hospital staff cleaned out their clutter and extra stuff, and hosted a yard sale on September 15th on behalf of Phinney’s Friends. It was a sparkling crisp late summer day, and the parking lot was filled with donations and smiling faces. We had a very nice turnout, as many items found new homes, and we collected over $500.00 on a very fun afternoon.

Our canine volunteers were there too, mingling.

A great deal of hard work went into setting up such a nice event, named Dog Days of Summer. Hudson Animal Hospital staff set up several tents full of pre-used items for cats, dogs and humans, as well as food, refreshments and cookies. The group of animal lovers also had a raffle, which offered three baskets — two for dogs and one for cats — filled with treats and toys.

Nice baskets were raffled at Dog Days of Summer.

Starr made the Phinney’s Friends posters with pictures of our furry clients to accompany the baskets That Hudson Animal Hospital generously put together.

And not only the people had fun. Jean and Kathy from Dog’s Learning Center came to support us by providing demonstrations in dog obedience and offering onsite help for visitors with their dogs. Dog owners exercised their pooches jumping loops and learning tricks, while some of us mingled. Some very cute puppies also got their first taste of learning how to be happy good dogs.

Shopping for bargains.

Starr and Daniela came with two of their own dogs and spent time explaining about the good work of Phinney’s Friends to anyone who showed an interest. We distributed flyers and showed pictures of our furry clients. Everyone had a great time!

Roger Peduzzi, DVM, says we have a raffle winner.

Nice doggie basket.

Thank you to the very supportive staff of Hudson Animal Hospital and the kind volunteers from Dog’s Learning Center of Hudson. It’s thanks to efforts like Dog Days of Summer that we are able to pay vet bills, buy prescription food and any other supplies that pets need when their families are in dire straits. You guys are our heroes.
